In amongst the many devices, gadgets and gizmos announced at CES this year, this little mentioned dock from Sony has caught our attention.

Launched together with a list of other Sony in-car headunits, the XSP-N1BT Smartphone Cradle Receiver is a dock that fits in a standard double DIN compartment available in many cars and it transforms your smartphone into an in-car entertainment hub. Your smartphone sits on the dock using a clamping system and connects to the system using Bluetooth, there’s NFC support to make things easy as well. Sony says the XSP-N1BT is a first of its kind.

The dock supports both iOS and Android devices but if you’re using an iPhone, you’ll need to use USB instead of Bluetooth. The USB port can also be used to charge your device, if you’re using an Xperia charging is done via a magnetic connector so no cables are required. Through Sony’s AppRemote app, you can control music and other media using voice control and an included infrared remote in addition to the standard touch interface. There’s also inputs for CD, radio, and USB.

The Sony XSP-N1BT will be available in the US in May and will retail for US$250 (about RM820 based on current exchange rates). There’s no word on whether the device make it to Malaysia but we sure hope it does.
