Tablets are a good and convenient distraction for restless kids, that’s why you see more and more kids using tablets these days and Samsung believes that there is a big enough market that it has created an Android tablet designed specifically for kids.
The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids is based on the Galaxy Tab 3 but designed — both in hardware and software — for a much younger target audience in mind. The device gets a bright yellow shell casing with an orange rubber bumper that looks like it withstand many drops and bumps. As an option, Samsung also makes a matching prop stand with an integrated stylus for the device.
Being designed for kids the Tab 3 Kids get a pretty kiddish spec sheet as well. The 7-inch display pushes a lowly 1024×600 pixels (about 170ppi), there’s WiFi, Bluetooth, a 4,000mAh battery, a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front camera. Powering the device is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The kids also get Android 4.1 on top of a kid specific UI skin complete with its own app store. In addition to that there’s also a Time Management feature that allow parents to set usage time limits and automatically locks the device once the usage time is up.
The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids was first announced in late August of this year and Samsung will be introducing the device to the Malaysian market this week. Pricing details is not available at the moment but we’ll update this post when we get it.
