Samsung’s next Galaxy flagship might pack a 2560×1440 pixels in a 5-inch AMOLED display with an effective pixel density of 560ppi, according to a Samsung presentation deck.
The deck was material for Samsung’s Analyst Day where Samsung’s top rank executives talk about the company’s future direction and strategy to analysts. The deck, prepared for Samsung’s Display division top executive Kinam Kim, outlines, amongst other things, the specifications for displays to be released in 2014 and beyond, and in one slide, Samsung indicated that WQHD displays could make it into its flagship smartphones like the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4.
Also evident in the deck is Samsung’s belief in flexible displays being the next big thing for mobile devices allowing the company to grow beyond just smartphones and tablets and tap into new markets like wearables in the next couple of years. Samsung also plans to enter the automotive market with its flexible displays. You can view the full deck here.
While Samsung may have lofty ambitions for ultra high resolution displays for mobile devices next year, its not the only manufacturer that plans to go before 1080p in smartphones. Vivo from China is also setting it sights on smartphones with pixel-packed displays. Its Xplay3S smartphone is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch display with a 2560×1440 pixel WQHD as well and it this is indeed the case, then things are certainly looking sharp for 2014.
