Qualcomm which is well known for making smart phone processors have been rather busy with a smart watch of their own. It’s called Toq and will be officially launched on 2nd December. The only barrier is the price of US$350, which is about US$70 more than the Galaxy Gear.
On the up side, the Toq smart watch brings a couple of new features to the table with its 1.55″ Mirasol display which uses ambient light to increase visibility instead of relying back-lighting in outdoor conditions. Qualcomm claims that this technology allows the Toq to last a couple of days in a single charge, which is a big advantage over the Galaxy Gear.
For charging, the Toq is juiced up via WiPower LE. This allows easy wireless charging by simply dropping the watch into a dock. Qualcomm has also released a matching pair of wireless earphones which is sold as an optional add-on. The ear phones also charged wirelessly on the same dock. Just like the Galaxy Gear, the strap is not replaceable as it houses the wiring to the battery that’s embedded on the watch clasp.
At the moment, Toq supports only Android devices with version 4.0.3 and above. If you’re interested to get one, the Toq smart watch can be ordered online on their website beginning 5th December.
