Huawei’s President has revealed that they are currently working on a Ascend P6 successor, dubbed as the P6S which will be powered on a true octa-core processor. The processor is said to be an updated version of Huawei’s own quad-core K3V2 processor which is currently powering its 6.2mm super slim Ascend P6. There’s no further details on the Ascend P6S but we might see some slight hardware bump internally and probably a slight change in terms of thickness.
While we’ve heard about Octa-Core processors since the announcement of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 (i9500), the Korean’s Exynos solution actually consist of 2 sets of quad-core processors which switches depending on scenarios. Samsung will be releasing an updated Exynos 5 solution soon which allows all 8 cores to be fired up for maximum performance. Meanwhile, MediaTek which is gaining popularity in low-mid level smart phones is also working on a true octa-core solution of their own as well.
For current Ascend P6 owners, Huawei has mentioned that they will be releasing an Android 4.4 KitKat update which will be rolled out sometime in January next year. Unlike its mainstream competitors, looks like they have skipped its Android 4.3 software upgrade plans and went straight for the latest. The Huawei Ascend P6 is currently priced at RM1,399 in Malaysia and it is offered as low as RM499 with Maxis contract.
