Control any electrical appliances through your mobile with this Smart Power Strip

Everybody loves to have some form of home automation in their crib. While most solutions are rather costly or cumbersome to implement, here’s a kickstarter project that’s rather practical yet simple to use. Introducing the Smart Power Strip which like the name suggests is a Power Strip that’s connected via WiFi.

On the exterior it looks like a typical extension cord/power strip but it allows remote switching on/off of individual plugs and even allows you to set a schedule of when to turn it on. It even comes with monitoring and alerts so that you’ll know what devices are currently switched on. This makes it perfect for those who spend most of their time outside or when travelling.

It was recently picked as the Top 5 finalist under Engadget’s Insert Coin Awards as well. For a start, it will be made for US plugs but a 3 prong UK plug version will be manufactured if it receives a minimum of 750 pledges. It costs US$119 to pledge for a unit and costs additional $30 for shipping. To back this idea, you can pledge your support over here.
