By the numbers: Nexus 5 compared with today’s flagship smart phones

The recently announced Nexus 5 offers pure android experience with its latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS. With a top notch 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and a 4.95″ Full HD display, the Nexus 5 is on the same league as today’s flagship models. On paper, its dimensions is rather similar with the 5″ Galaxy S4. Click on the image above for the full hardware comparison.

Like previous Nexus models (with exception of Nexus One), the Nexus 5 lacks expandable storage but comes with a larger 16GB and 32GB storage options. In terms of battery, it packs just 2,300mAh which is probably the smallest battery mated paired with the top of the line Snapdragon 800 processor. With optimised background services with Android 4.4, the battery life might be comparable with its higher battery capacity smart phone rivals. Overall, the Nexus 5 is 9 grams lighter and 0.5mm thinner than the Nexus 4 while packing a bigger screen and battery capacity.

In the imaging department, LG didn’t utilise its G2‘s 13MP camera into the Nexus 5 but instead went with a 8MP shooter that also comes with Optical Image Stabilisation. Apart from LG, the other OIS equipped smart phones are HTC One, Nokia Lumia 1020 & the latest Lumia 1520.

If you’re planning to get one from overseas, take note that the Nexus 5 comes in 2 variants – D820 & D821. The D820 version is targeted at the North American market which supports their local CDMA bands but it carries 4G LTE bands that are not supported in Malaysia. For the rest of the world including Malaysia, the Nexus 5 model to get is the D821 version which comes with 4G LTE support for Band 3 (1800MHz) & 7 (2600MHz).
