Nokia Ready to Take On The Galaxy Note 3 with Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320

Smartphones with large screens. It seems everyone wants one these days and it looks like almost every device manufacturer is making one. While Nokia is late to the party, they are coming to the said party with a bang bringing in not one but two large format smartphones.

Nokia Lumia 1520

First up, we have the Lumia 1520. The Lumia 1520 is the largest Windows Phone to date with a full HD 1080p 6-inch display pushing out a pixel density of about 367ppi. It is also the first Windows Phone device to pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 powerhouse quad-core processor running at 2.26GHz with 2GB of RAM. Seeing as how Windows Phone devices can perform smoothly even with dated processors, you can expect the 1520 to be blazing fast with the Snapdragon 800.

Going a full 12 or 14 hours on a single charge is going to be easy with the Lumia 1520 thanks to the massive 3,400mAh battery and that frugal Snapdragon processor. Other goodies include built-in wireless charging, LTE support, four microphones for multi-microphone noise reduction during video recording and voice calls, and Nokia newest PureView camera sensor. There’s also 32GB of on board storage with support for microSD cards up to 64GB in capacity.

The 1520’s 20MP PureView camera has all the bells and whistles more powerful stablemate, the Lumia 1020, including optical image stabilization and oversampling capabilities albeit at only 2x as opposed to the Lumia 1020’s 3x lossless zoom prowess. At the front you get a 1.2MP wide angle camera that’s capable of shooting 720p videos.

Nokia Lumia 1320

Next we have the Lumia 1320. The 1320 is Nokia’s vision of large format for the masses with a spec sheet that’s been cut down to meet a budget. The Lumia 1320 features a 6-inch 720p display and Qualcomm’s entry level Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor running at 1.7GHz with 1GB of RAM. There’s 8GB of on board storage along with microSD card support up to 64GB in capacity.

In the camera department, where the 1520 gets 20 megapixels the 1320 gets only 5 at the rear with 1080p video capabilities. At the front you get a 0.7 megapixel shooter and not much else. You will also be missing the four-mic array that is build into the 1520 instead the 1320 gets just one mic. Also missing is the built-in wireless charging and NFC but it;s a good thing that the Lumia 1320 gets the same 3,400 mAh battery as the more expensive 1520.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is expected to begin selling this quarter in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, China and Europe with a price tag of around RM2,380 (US$749). By the looks of it Malaysia might get the device in December the earliest.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 will be available in a choice of orange, yellow, black, or white, and is planned to be available first in China and Vietnam in early 2014, followed by other Asian markets, India and European markets. The device is expected to sell for RM 1,080 (US$339).
