Upcoming Nexus 5 not getting MEMS camera, heads to Oppo N1 instead

Earlier on, it was speculated that the upcoming Nexus 5 will be carrying a new MEMS camera that offers high speed auto focus in a compact package. MEMS maker DigitalOptics has refuted such claims and the Nexus 5 is said to be using Sony’s sensor instead.

While clarifying the situation, DigitalOptics has also announced Oppo as the first smart phone maker to utilise their MEMS camera. The smart phone in question is the recently announced Oppo N1 which features a 13MP rotatable camera that works for both front and back.

To recap on the specs, the Oppo N1 is powered with a quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB of RAM and comes with a rather generous 3,610mAh battery. Over at the front it has a large 5.9″ Full HD IPS display and it even has a discreet touch pad at the back. You can read up more on the Oppo N1 here.

It would be interesting to see how would the Oppo N1 fare against today’s smart phone cameras. Now if only they bring the device to Malaysia soon.
