Nexus 7 2013 edition gets priced in Malaysia from RM999

The newly refreshed Nexus 7 for 2013 has finally listed by ASUS Malaysia in their September/October product catalog. The 7″ tablet with pure Android experience is priced at RM999 for the 16GB WiFi version and RM1,299 for the 32GB 3G/LTE/WiFi version.

While retaining the similar 7″ design, the new Nexus 7 2013 version comes with a higher resolution 7″ IPS display that does 1920×1200 pixels, giving a high pixel density of 323ppi. As comparison, the previous Nexus 7 had a modest display resolution of 1280×800. Underneath, the processor has been replaced from a Quad-Core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor to a Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro while the on-board RAM has been doubled to 2GB.

A new addition which was lacking before is a 5MP rear camera and it does 1080p HD videos. For storage, you have a choice of either 16GB (WiFi) or 32GB (3G/LTE) but there’s no microSD slot to increase your storage capacity. In terms of dimensions, the new Nexus 7 is much more compact as well with a 8.7mm thickness and weighs less than 300grams (290g for WiFi, 299g for 3G/LTE). The original Nexus 7 was 10.5mm thick and weighs 340grams. Comparing the 2 models, surprisingly the 2013 Nexus has a lower battery capacity of 3,950mAh which is 375mAh less than the outgoing model.

Priced similar to the current iPad mini, the Nexus 7 is alternative tablet to consider if you have a budget of just RM1,000 to spend. It’s no secret that Apple is working on a new upgraded iPad mini that’s expected to be announced soon.
