Rumours about the new iPhones are rife and the latest one reported by Japan’s Nikkei says that the first wave of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C shipments will hit Japan on September 20.
Japan, like the US and a few other key markets, were among the first countries to start selling the iPhone 5 and if Nikkei’s sources are reliable, it’s a good indication of when we can expect the new iPhones to hit Malaysia. If we had to guess, it would be somewhere between November and December perhaps even as early as October. What’s certain is that Celcom, DiGi and Maxis will offer the new iPhones at the same time.
Persistent rumours say that Apple is working on two new iphones. One will be an update of the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 will receive the “S” moniker and a minor refresh with an updated processor, improved camera hardware including a dual-LED flash as well as an embedded fingerprint scanner. There’s also a new gold color option on the same anodised aluminium body.
The other new iPhone is rumoured to be a mid-range contender called iPhone 5C. Hardware specs are expected to meet a price point down to the rumoured plastic body. The device is said to be offered in numerous colours and should be priced around US$400 about RM1,330 at today’s exchange rate.
Apple is expected to make the announcement about the new iPhones on September 10 in the US (early September 11 in Malaysia).
