LG hit a new milestone today with the announcement of the world’s highest resolution display for smartphones. The 5.5-inch LG Quad HD AH-IPS LCD panel has a resolution of 2560×1440 and packs a pixel density of 538ppi — the highest resolution and ppi mobile panel to date. The Quad HD panel packs 4 times more pixels than a 720p display.

LG says with the new display users can expect more delicate colour reproduction and improved contrast and vividness when compared to current mobile displays. Beyond that, the Quad HD panel will allow user to view PC-version of web pages at a single glance sacrificing sharpness or detail.

At only 1.21mm thin with a 1.2mm bezel, the Quad HD panel is also the world’s slimmest and narrowest panel. Screen brightness is not sacrificed in the pursuit of higher pixel density as well with the Quad HD display pushing a respectable 430nits.

There’s no mention of when Quad HD panels will make it into smartphones but its a pretty safe bet to expect seeing the new display panels in 2014 phone.
