Regional Unveil of Sony’s Xperia i1 Honami Set to Happen in Malaysia

Sony will be unveiling its latest smartphone — the 20.7MP Xperia i1– to the region’s tech media right here in Malaysia and its happening soon, a Philippine tech site revealed.

The site, Yugatech, has received an invite to attend an event in Malaysia from September 4 to 6 which the site believes is for the much rumoured Sony Honami smartphone.

After the early launch of the Xperia Z Ultra (Malaysia gets the device much earlier than other countries), Malaysia is a key market for Sony. With the regional launch of a key device happening here, the brand is indeed looking to establish a stronger foothold in this market.

The Sony Honami (aka Xperia i1) is expected to feature a 5-inch Full HD Triluminous display with X-Reality and a Quadcore Snapdragon 800 processor. The device’s calling card is its 20.7MP sensor with a large — for a smartphone — 1/2.3″ sensor mated to a new lens element bearing the same name as Sony’s top-line G Lens series, seen for the first time on a Sony smartphone.

Other specs have not been revealed but its a pity to see Sony opting for a slower LED flash instead of a Xenon flash that’s found on the Lumia 1020 and S4 Zoom. A Xenon flash goes off faster and brighter allowing for better low light pictures.

As the event is happening soon, we expect Sony Mobile Malaysia to issue invites for local media soon. Stay tuned.
