Google Reveals Glass Specs: Features 16GB Storage, 5MP Camera with 720p Video

Google has released the technical specifications for its much anticipated Glass — a mobile internet device that looks like a pair of really techy reading spectacles — and things are certainly shaping up to be interesting.

Glass will feature a 640×360 display that Google say will provide a viewing experience similar to a “25-inch high definition screen viewed from eight feet away”. It’s actually not that great if you think about it considering that 32-inch or 42-inch panels are a staple in most Malaysian living rooms.

Beyond the display, the Glass will also come with a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p video. Audio if provided via a bone conduction transducer, which is cool. There will be 16GB of onboard storage, which is plenty when you consider that many entry level smartphones pack only 4GB.

Glass will also be comfortable to wear thanks to adjustable nosepads and a durable frame that Google say will “fit any face”. Battery life is described as good for “one full day of typical use,” but Google say that certain applications such as video recording and the use of Hangouts will affect battery performance.

In a related news, Google has also started shipping the Glass Explorer Edition — a US$1,500/pair early prototype — to developers earlier than expected but if you want to get your hands on one, you’ll have to wait till 2015.

Fingers crossed that Google will make it available for mere mortals much earlier. In the meantime, find out more about Google Glass here.
