Google Nexus 4 officially announced

Despite having cancelled its event due to bad weather, Google has went ahead with the announcement of its new Nexus 4 along with its revised line up of 7″ and 10″ tablets. The Nexus 4 is no stranger thanks to pre-launch leaks which is based on LG’s flagship Optimus G.

To recap on the specs, it features 4.7″ IPS display (320 ppi) that pushes 1280×768 resolution and toughen with Gorilla Glass 2. Underneath the hood, the Nexus 4 is now powered with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro coupled with 2GB of RAM which keeps it in-line with today’s high-end Android smart phone segment.

In terms of storage, it comes in 8GB and 16GB options which doesn’t let you expand further due to lack of microSD slot. There’s a 8MP shooter at the back that shoots 1080p HD videos and a front facing 1.3MP camera that does 720p. There’s no LTE support if you’re looking for one but it supports HSPA+ speeds up to 42Mbps. On-board there’s a 2,100mAh battery and it weighs 139 grams with a thickness of 9.1mm.

Also new on the Nexus line up is its wireless charging capabilities. They have introduced wireless charging dock which they call the Wireless Charging Orb that’s slanted on one side. The Verge reported that it uses Qi wireless charging standard which possibly means that the Nokia wireless charger might just work with the Nexus 4 as well.

Most importantly, the Nexus 4 is rocking the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which brings a host of new features includes a new lock screen, camera UI and enhanced Google Now functionality. The 8GB version is going at US$299 (about RM914) while the 16GB version is priced at US$349 (RM1067) which is rather affordable unlocked. Availability is slated for November 13 in the US and UK with Malaysian availability still unknown at this point.
