The smaller Samsung Galaxy S III Mini is now officially announced with a smaller 4.0″ display while maintaining the familiar Galaxy S III design. Like what was revealed earlier on, the Galaxy S III Mini packs a rather mid-spec hardware with a dual-core 1GHz ST-Ericsson NovaThor processor, 1GB of RAM and a 5MP camera that does 720p HD videos. Over at the front, there’s a VGA camera for conference calls. The 4.0″ display is of Super AMOLED variety and pushes 800×480 resolution.
There’s a choice of 8GB and 16GB on board storage with expansion using microSD. Out of the box, it runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it is juiced up with a 1,500mAh battery. In terms of dimensions, the S III Mini is obviously shorter at 121.55mm, has a thickness of 9.85mm and weighs 115.5 grams. As comparison, the bigger S III is 136.6mm tall, 8.6mm thick and weighs 133 grams.
Initially when the Galaxy S III was announced, we would have expected a similar Galaxy S III spec hardware in a smaller size for those looking for single handed practicality. However it turns out to be more of a Galaxy S Advance replacement with similar screen size, hardware but with increased RAM.
