Celcom today has introduced PortaWiFi which acts as a portable mobile hotspot. However compared to the standard MiFi device offering which runs on its own battery, the PortaWiFi relies on an external power source.
The PortaWiFi is sold at RM159 which comes with a USB dongle, 3-pin adapter & car adapter and it is bundled with 12 months contract of Celcom First Data. In terms of plans, you have a choice of 4GB, 6GB and 10GB plans at RM68, RM98 and RM138 monthly respectively.
In addition, Celcom is giving rebates between RM10-15 a month for 12 months depending on subscription package. Advance of RM40 is required during sign up. If you device to cancel the subscription within the 12 months period, a RM200 penalty fee applies.
The modem which looks like a standard USB stick is capable up to 21Mbps. In terms of portability, requiring an external power source can be a nuisance especially when you’re wanting to go online with your mobile phone and tablets.
