Japan gets dual-core Samsung Galaxy S III with 2GB RAM

NTT Docomo in Japan has announced its own version of Samsung Galaxy S III that supports 4G LTE up to 75Mbps. As expected it runs on a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm S4 instead of its own Exynos 4 Quad processor. Designed for the local market, it also comes with 1-seg TV support as well.

While the rest of the specs remain unchanged, it is interesting to point out that the Japan version gets a whopping 2GB of RAM, instead of 1GB that comes standard with international quad-core models. This was spotted within Docomo’s PDF specification sheet and shown on Samsung Japan’s product page. On board, it comes with 32GB of storage which is expandable with microSD.

This makes the Galaxy S III Japanese variant the 2nd smart phone with 2GB RAM, after LG’s recently announced Optimus LTE2. It would be interesting to see which performs better, Quad Core with 1GB of RAM vs Dual Core with 2GB of RAM. Too bad we won’t be seeing this model in Malaysia.
