LG going quad-core with purported X3 smart phone

In early 2011, LG rose to the occasion with the Optimus 2X – the first Android smart phone with dual core processor. This year, LG seems to be looking at releasing its quad-core smart phone as well. The device shown above is the purported LG X3 which is powered by a quad-core nVidia Tegra 3 chipset.

Along with the powerful processor is a large 4.7″ display that supports a high resolution of 1280×720 and comes with a thickness of under 9mm. It comes with 16GB of on board storage and it is juiced up by a rather massive 2,000mAh battery as standard. For imaging, it comes with a 8MP camera at the rear and a front facing 1.3MP camera.

Despite having buttons at the front, the X3 is said to be released with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich installed. It is said that the physical buttons would be used instead of the on-screen buttons, which means more screen real estate. The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich interface on the Galaxy Nexus is using on-screen buttons which takes up the bottom portion of the screen.

Tentatively the device is expected sometime around mid this year and hopefully it might just show up at MWC 2012 at Barcelona.
