Update: U Mobile has put up an FAQ page to answers some questions that subscribers may have with regards to claiming their free data and SMS. Link to the FAQ page here.

In apology to the nationwide network outage suffered by U Mobile recently, the operator is offering free mobile data and SMS to all its subscribers.

Specifically, all prepaid and post-paid U Mobile subscribers will get free SMS to all local operators all day on 10 November, 10 December, and 10 January 2012. In addition, U Mobile’s monthly data package subscribers will receive free 500MB monthly from 10 November to the end of January 2012.

U Mobile is certainly doing a commendable job in making amends to ts subscribers for the network outage but it goes without saying that operators rarely get a second chance when it comes to things like this. While this is not the first network outage suffered by the operator, let’s hope Dr. Heerjee will make this the last.

Official statement from U Mobile produced in verbatim after the jump.

U Mobile Offers Free Services to Subscribers in Apology for Recent Network Disruptions

Kuala Lumpur, 2 November 2011 – U Mobile Sdn Bhd today announced that its subscribers affected by the service disruptions on Monday, 31 October, will receive free SMS and free data worth the value of over RM30 million over three months as a gesture from the company to its valued users.

All U Mobile subscribers, both prepaid and post-paid, will be able to send free SMS all day to all operators in Malaysia on 10 November, 10 December, and 10 January 2012. In addition, the monthly data package users will receive additional free data of 500MB monthly from 10 November to the end of January 2012.

Dr. Kaizad Heerjee, Chief Executive Officer, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, said in a statement posted on the U Mobile website, “We would like to sincerely apologize for the service disruption you have experienced on Monday, 31 October. As shared on our Facebook page later that evening, this was caused by an unexpected glitch during the upgrading of our high speed network.

“We know that free SMS and free data cannot compensate for the inconvenience caused on Monday but hope that this goes some way to expressing our sincere apologies to our customers. The trust of our subscribers is of paramount importance to us and we will continue to look into ways to meet their expectations.”
