Sony Corporation and Ericsson today has jointly announced that Sony will buy Ericsson’s 50% stake in Sony Ericsson. This makes the business 100% wholly owned by Sony after the 2 companies were together for 10 years.
According to the release, Sony will have the opportunity to integrate smart phones into its array of network connected consumer electronics devices such as tablets, television and computers. In addition, it will provide Sony a wider intellectual property cross licensing including patents related to wireless handset technology. For Ericsson, they will be receiving €1.05 billion and shall focus on enabling connectivity through R&D. You can read the full press release here.
