Ahead of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 launch, Celcom pulled out another tablet out of its blue cube with the launch of the 8.9-inch LG Optimus Pad — the world’s first tablet capable of capturing 3D images and videos. The Optimus Pad is also the first 8.9-inch Honeycomb tablet in the market.
The LG Optimus Pad runs an Nvidia 1Ghz Tegra 2 dual core processor and features an 8.9-inch WXGA display with a 1280×768 resolution and a dual-array 5MP rear-facing camera placed about 1.5-inches apart of each other for 3D video recording and photos. The dual-5MP camera is capable of shooting 1080p 2D or 720p 3D videos.
Unfortunately unlike the LG Optimus 3D, the display on the Optimus Pad isn’t autostereoscopic. For you to view 3D content on the device, you will need to wear 3D glasses which is an optional extra. In terms of look and feel the Optimus Pad shares the same design language as the LG Optimus 2X.
The LG Optimus Pad retails for RM2,199 outright. Celcom is offering it for as low as RM1,668 with a data plan contract. They are two plans two choose from for the tablet:
Celcom is currently offering a 12-month RM10 monthly rebate for both plans as well. Based on the rebate, we assume the contract term is for 12 months. We can’t find any additional information about the service plans for Optimus Pad on Celcom’s website at time of writing (Great job running the site Celcom. Awesome stuff!).
