Samsung sells 3 million Galaxy S II in 55 days

Samsung reports that it has managed to sell 3 million of it latest flagship Android smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S II, within 55 days of the device being launched globally. The original Galaxy S took 85 days to hit the same mark.

There’s no doubt that Samsung’s Galaxy S line of smartphones are amongst the company’s most successful consumer devices but the number still pales in comparison to the iPhone 4. Apple reported that it sold 1.7 million units on June 26 2010, just two of days of device’s debut on June 24 last year.

Still, reception for the Galaxy S II has been tremendous. In Malaysia alone, people were already standing in line to purchase the device from day one. Although one could argue that the interest was mostly attributed to the fact that Maxis was offering a very attractive RM799 for the Galaxy S II, albeit to a very limited number of customers who must also sign up with a 24-months contract.

Having said that, word has it local Galaxy S II stocks are hard to come by, which is another indication of the device doing very well on the sales floor.
