Celcom has started registration of interest of the Samsung Galaxy SL. So what’s with the extra L behind? From first look, it looks pretty much the same as the Samsung Galaxy S but there are distinctive differences between the 2. Firstly it uses Super LCD instead of the usual Super AMOLED.
According to Engadget, the processor is different as well as it runs on 1GHz TI OMAP 3630 processor instead of Samsung Hummingbird 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor. The battery is of higher capacity at 1650mAh and as a result, it is thicker at 10.59mm vs 9.9mm in the Galaxy S model.
Overall, the Galaxy SL looks like an extended battery edition of the Galaxy S but sacrifices marginally on screen and dimensions. The difference between Super LCD and Super AMOLED should be barely noticable and it is also good to know that the Galaxy SL also comes with its toughen Gorilla Glass. From the Celcom’s Galaxy SL spec sheet page, it runs on Android 2.2 Froyo and comes with 16GB 4GB of internal storage. There is also another variant of the Galaxy SL destined for Asian markets like Malaysia where the internal storage drops to 4GB rather than 16GB presumably in a bit to reduce cost further.
As an early bird promotion, the first 100 to sign up with Celcom online for the Samsung Galaxy SL will get RM100 discount and Free 8GB microSD card. There are 3 bundling plans available and the Galaxy SL can be bought from as low as RM718 with a contract tenure of 18 months. Full package details here.
