U Mobile new postpaid plans with bundled data

U Mobile has introduced new postpaid plans that comes with voice and data. This is similar to what you get with iPhone 4’s iDiGi and iValue plans. Last week when U Mobile announced an array of device bundling, they were all tied with new postpaid plans that wasn’t published on their website like U Premium & U Plus. Now they have revealed the details and it supposedly offer greater value for smart phones with its bundled data.

There are 4 plans on offer – U Lite, U Value, U Plus and U Premium with monthly commitment of RM68, RM98, RM138 and RM168 respectively. The first 2 plans come with 3GB of data which if you exceed will be charged at a Pay As You Go (PAYU) rate of 5sen/MB. For the higher 2 plans, you’ll get 5GB and there’s no excess charge for additional usage however your speeds will be subject to throttling.

On the bundles, they offer voice from 300 minutes for U Lite to 800 minutes on the highest U Premium plan. However there is a catch that half of these bundles must be used for on net U Mobile to U Mobile calls only. In other words, you are able to utilise all voice for same network calls but you could only use half of your allocation to call other networks. Once you reach 50% usage to call non-U Mobile numbers, the excess voice rate of 18sen/minute applies. The same 50% usage for U Mobile to U Mobile condition also applies on SMS as well.

If you’re on U Mobile’s older U38/U68/U98 plans with add-on data, this might be a good plan to consider. For example, U68 postpaid with UB68 5GB Internet plan costs RM136. While U68’s own RM68 commitment being maxed out on calls offer about 566 minutes of voice (12sen/min), the new U Plus plan gives you 700 minutes of voice, 500 SMS plus 5GB data for only RM98/month.
