Local newspaper steals picture from blog and puts it to print

Check it out. Borneo Post, a legit local daily serving the East Malaysian market that collects money from every issue that it sells stole a picture from a blog and went to print with it to accompany a news piece.

The blog in question? SoyaCincau.com!

Borneo Post published an article on February 21, 2011 about Yes where it quoted an analyst saying that the 4G operator could be offering postpaid packages soon. In the article Borneo Post used a picture that we had snapped of the giant Yes cube located at in front of Lot 10 in KL.

For the use of the picture, the editors of Borneo Post had never requested permission from us, the owners of the picture.

This is not the first time (if you click through the link, go all the way to the bottom of the article) a legit publication rips off content from our site without properly attributing it back to us.

There have been a lot of question on the ethics of bloggers, perhaps they should also question the ethics of some of these publications. Stealing is a crime.

How hard is it to send an email to ask for permission to use a picture? We would be more than happy to give permission for free. Apparently for this newspaper, its too much of hassle that the editors deemed it ok to steal from our site instead.

Naturally, would like it for Borneo Post to issue and apology and attribute the picture to our site but seeing that they editors find it acceptable to steal, we’re not expecting much from them.

Head on over to after the jump for a picture of the offending article.

Published without permission from Borneo Post.
