Maxis BlackBerry Torch revealed, revamps BIS plans

Celcom has gotten the bigger spotlight today for the BlackBerry Torch but let’s not forget that Maxis too is launching theirs as well.

So the plans are out and just like we mentioned earlier, it is offered as low as RM1399 over 24 months on BIS Pro. The rest of the contract price are shown above.

So what is BIS Pro and how does this bundling work? Well Maxis has changed the way their bundle BlackBerry devices and did some revision on their postpaid BIS plans.

Previously Maxis bundles their BlackBerry devices by adding upfront payment of their BIS plans which is heavily subsidised over 12 months. While this offers quite a good value in the long run, potential customers had to fork out more cash upfront which is much more than the retail price of the device themselves. This was done for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Curve 9300 and the recent BlackBerry Pearl 3G. Now this has been simplified by adding on a BIS data plan on top of your existing Maxis Value Plus plans over a contract period of 12 or 24 months, which is similar to their Android and iPhone 4 iData plans.

Apart from the change of bundling, Maxis also has revised their BIS plans by increasing the data quota for each plans. You can see the difference below.

NEW

OLD

So if you’re getting a BlackBerry Torch with BIS Standard, you’ll get a total of 1GB monthly (500MB + 500MB Free) for only RM55/month. If that’s not enough, BIS Pro offers 3GB for RM90/month.

For more details, head to Maxis BlackBerry line up page. This latest change affects all BlackBerry that’s on offer right now. You can check out more details on the BIS plans here.

Kudos to Maxis as it is easier to understand and to own a BlackBerry from them.
