To geeks and gadget junkies alike this is probably one of the most interesting lists this year.The TIME 100 gadgets of all-time lists gadgets from all the way back to 1923 — the year the iconic magazine began publication.
Among the gadgets mentioned in the list, the top ranking phones (including PDAs and tablets) are:
- iPad — way up in the number 4 spot
- iPhone — highest ranking smartphone at number 5
- Motorola DynaTAC 8000x — ranked 28
- BlackBerry 6210 — ranked 29
- Motorola RAZR V3 — ranked 34
- Palm Pilot 1000 — ranked 40
- Motorola StarTac — ranked 48
- Bluetooth headsets got a special mention at number 53
- Novatel Wireless MiFi — not available here. Ranked 79
- Danger Hiptop a.k.a. Sidekick — not available here but still a mobile device and ranked 84
- Motorola PageWriter 2000 — also not available here. Ranked 90
- Bellsouth IBM Simon — an early day touch screen smartphone that costs US$899 (RM2,792), ranked 91
- Samsung Uproar — an unfortunate name for the first phone in the world that also doubles up as an MP3 player and not available here as well. Ranked 95
- Sharp J-SH04 — world’s first mobile phone with camera and not available here. Ranked 97
Can you imagine how the world would be today without these pioneering gadgets? Having owned almost half the devices listed above and a few more on that full 100 list, we couldn’t.
