OFFICIAL: Nokia E5 lands in Singapore and Malaysia

Nokia has officially announced the availability of its latest Eseries smartphone, the Nokia E5.

Retailing for a very attractive RM830 the candy-bar with full physical QWERTY keypad E5 looks like a smart choice for the value conscious out and about-er.

Considered as an entry-level “business smartphone” in Nokia’s line-up the E5 runs on a competent albeit very dated Symbian S60 third edition platform. Sporting a 2.4in QVGA screen with 320×240 screen, the E5 boast HSPA connectivity with up to 10.2Mbps download and 2Mbps download. There’s A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and WiFi b/g.

Processor wise the E5 is powered by a ARM 11 600MHz processor with 250MB on board memory. The E5 takes MicroSD memory expansion up to 32GB and there’s a 2GB MicroSD card included in the box. There’s also a 5MP camera with LED flash. The camera doesn’t have autofocus and records VGA video.

And finally for the stylistas out there, you’d be happy to note that the E5 comes in two colours, carbon black and chalk white. But there are other colours available elsewhere including Sky Blue, Copper Brown, Silver Grey which we won’t be getting at the moment unfortunately.

At launch, no telco are saying that they will offer the E5 on contract basis. Considering the price of the phone, we’re not expecting a a contract plan as well.

For the price, you can’t expect much and we’d love to get our hands on one a pit it against the HTC Wildfire which is roughly in the same class as the E5. Nokia says that the E5 is “one of the most affordable smartphones in the market, the best value for the serious networker, whether you are in the midst of living life to the fullest, or taking a break to enjoy the moment.” It’s going to be interesting to see how both phones perform.

Which one to you think will take the cake? The Nokia E5 or the HTC Wildfire? Comment us!
