iPhone 4 pre-orders exceed 600K! AT&T halts pre-orders

Just a day after pre-ordering is made available, the Apple iPhone 4 had been insanely sought after with more than 600,00 pre-orders placed. The demand is so crazy that users faced difficulty pre-booking it online like its AirAsia’s “Zero Fare” fever. As comparison, the hot selling iPad took 28 days to reach 1 million units. This could set a new record for the hottest Apple product yet.

According to AT&T, the pre-orders are ten times compared to the iPhone 3GS launched a year ago. With such demand, Apple might need to look into increasing supplies before it hampers other international releases.

Due to the fact that many potential customers had problems pre ordering their units, Apple issued the following statement:

Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.
