HTC Legend Unboxing

As reported earlier, the HTC Legend has finally hit our shores via DiGi’s DG Smart Plan and Celcom Exec Plan offering. We managed to get our hands on a unit and will be giving you a detail look on what HTC has to offer.

Let’s go thru the unboxing as we give our initial impression of the Legend.

Unboxing

The HTC Legend comes in a box which is similar sized as the Apple iPhone. Simple packaging that does its job well and the contents are slide out from the bottom.

Underneath the handset and battery compartment lies the accompanying manuals and individually wrapped accessories in soft touch plastic.

Inside, you’ll get the following:

  • HTC Legend handset
  • Battery 1300mAh
  • 3.5mm Stereo Handsfree Kit with ear piece and clip
  • micro-USB Cable
  • AC Charger with USB output
  • UK plug for AC Charger
  • 2GB microSD Card
  • Bunch of Manual and Warranty notes

You can get the official HTC Legend Specification here.

The Legend

In our hands, the HTC Legend’s alloy body feels nice to touch and has a mixture of soft touch rubber plastics at the top and bottom of the device. The Legend’s body in fact is constructed with a single piece of alloy for a durable yet slim built. Without a doubt, it does feels as sturdy and premium, except for the 4 buttons at the bottom that feels like it came from an entry level mobile phone. The screen looks slightly smaller than the iPhone 3GS although they share the same screen resolution of 320×480 pixels.

At a glance, the HTC Legend has some resemblance to the iPhone as it shares same position of the power button, headphone jack, volume control and “home button”. What makes this stand out is the typical Android curve at the bottom which could also help to protect the screen when placed facing downwards.

Its predecessor HTC Hero and even the Google Nexus One uses a trackball at the bottom. For the HTC Legend, this is replaced with a clickable Optical Trackball which functions like a touch pad.

Since the Legend’s body is a single piece, the removal media, battery and SIM card are located at the bottom. Removing the bottom rubbery plastic piece reveal the slots protected by a plastic flip. We’re happy to report that the cover is easy to remove while the SIM Card and MicroSD is easy to install with its push-eject mechanism. No special tools or Pin is required to do this.

Since the Legend aluminum body is prone to affect signal strength, the antenna is smartly designed into this plastic piece for optimised reception. You can see the 2 contact points of the antenna in the cover from the picture above.

At the back, there’s a 5.0MP Camera with assisted flash. The speaker phone is located at the back which we find it better placed instead at the front or the sides for better hearing.

Next, watch out for our review on usability of the HTC Legend and how it fare against the iPhone 3GS.

In the mean time, enjoy our gallery of photos taken of the unboxing and comparison with the iPhone 3GS.
