The Sun Daily reports today that Maxis is offering free mobile games and lower IDD rates during this festive season.

Maxis Chief Marketing Officer Matthew Willsher said that this is to ensure that Maxis subscribers are entertained and they are able to keep in touch with loved ones and kept informed while traveling home.

Excerpt from The Sun Daily:

Under a promotion which runs until Feb 18, the 8,888th person to download a Chinese New Year song wins a Tai Thong dining voucher worth RM800, and every 888th person to download wins a prepaid top up card and a Nokia Xpress Music 5320 handphone.

Leading up to the start of the promotions, Maxis staff handed out ang pow with information on free mobile games like “Real Football” and “Block Breaker”.

Not much of a promo if you ask us but whatever.

Why are mobile games on mobile phones are still relevant nowadays, we will never know. Have you tried playing games on a mobile phone? It’s really crap. I’d get a PSP or a Nintendo DS any day. And that’s what we’re we’d advise you to do as well.

There’s also more than 500 “specially selected” Chinese New Year songs available for you to download.

Perfect for those who have access ang pau money and really don’t know what to do with it.

Check out Maxis website if you want to know more but if we were you…we wouldn’t bother.
