LG didn’t want to wait until next week’s IFA 2014 and they have announced its LG G Watch R, its answer to the Moto 360. The design looks pretty good and it blends in like a normal day to day watch without shouting that its smart. This is their second Android Wear device after its original LG G Watch.
While the Moto 360 is a looker with its thick steel frame and round display, we are not fond of its black band at the bottom of the screen. The folks of LG seems to have a better technical know-how and managed to deliver a full active round display on the G Watch R. It does look premium with a stainless steel frame and has a classy looking bezel.
In terms of specs, the round 1.3″ display does a higher 320×320 resolution using a P-OLED display, which is the same tech used on the LG G Flex. As comparison, the LG G Watch has a 1.65″ IPS LCD display that does 280×280 resolution. Powering the device is a familiar 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with 512MB of RAM and there’s 4GB of on-board storage.
For the strap, the G Watch R comes with a standard 22mm leather band which is easily swapped for a different look. There’s only a single Black colour option at the moment and juicing up the device is a 410mAh capacity battery. It is water and dust resistant too with IP67 rating.
No pricing details yet but it is likely to be available by the end of this year. The LG G Watch R will be previewed at the upcoming IFA 2014.
