Sony’s new flagship device the Xperia Z2 is now official, giving incremental upgrades from its current Xperia Z1 in offering their best premium waterproof smart phone yet. The front Triluminos display is bigger at 5.2″ and pushes a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080. Powering the device is the latest 2.3GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor that’s mated to 3GB of RAM. High-speed 4G LTE connectivity also comes as standard.
While its 20.7MP shooter with a 1/2.3″ Exmor Sensor remains unchanged from its previous model, the Xperia Z2 is capable of shooting 4K videos at 3840×2160 pixels resolution at 30fps. For better stereo audio recording, there’s also an optional STM10 stereo microphone accessory that’s sold separately.
For audio and video playback, the Xperia Z2 gives a better experience with its stereo speaker output. There’s also a built-in digital noise cancellation technology for undisturbed audio pleasure but it requires an optional MDR-NC31EM headset.
The battery on the Xperia Z2’s 3,200mAh capacity battery offers 200mAh more than the Xperia Z1 and this puts it on par with the Galaxy Note 3 in terms of capacity battery. Overall it is 8.2mm thick which is 0.3mm thinner than the Xperia Z1 and its slightly lighter at 158 grams. Like other flagship devices from Sony, it retains its Waterproof and Dust proof credentials with the IP rating of IP55/58. This allows the device to withstand being submerged under 1.5 metres of water for up to 30 minutes.
In the software department, Sony has added a couple of new features including Timeshift video which allows you to take videos in 120 frames per second for slow-mo effect.
