UPDATE: Motorola Moto G officially launched in Malaysia from RM698. Available 21st January 2014.
Budget smartphones are usually good at one thing — being cheap. Beyond that most sub-RM800 devices are really a bane to use with poor build quality and even cheaper looking design but that’s set to change with the arrival of the Motorola Moto G in Malaysia.
With a starting price of just RM698 for the 8GB version, the Moto G has been regarded by many as one of the best cheap Android in the market right now bringing some much needed performance and panache into a price bracket that’s crowded with dull and slow choices.
So what kind of phone do you get for less than RM800? For starters there’s the 4.5-inch 720p IPS LCD Gorilla Glass display (326ppi), then there’s the 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with 1GB RAM. You also get a 5MP rear camera with 720p video and a decent enough 1.3MP front camera to shoot selfies with. But to keep price down Motorola have omitted a few niceties like Micro SD expansion and LTE connectivity, and the battery is rather small with just 2070mAh of juice. On the upside, the Moto G looks really good and it’s probably the best-looking budget phone in the market right now and it comes with removable covers with colour options, and there’s already an Android 4.4 KitKat available for the device.
“Cheap, not good. Good, not cheap”, as we’ve often been told but the Moto G might just challenge that if you’re willing to overlook some of its shortcomings.
The Motorola Moto G is available exclusively at the moment from online retailer Lazada for RM698 for the 8GB version and RM798 for the 16GB version. Details here.
