Availability of 3D content is an important consideration when it comes to 3D phones. While we have 3D phones in Malaysia, only a handful of Android apps make full use of its 3D stereoscopic screen. To expand its use, LG has announced availability of a 3D Game converter engine which will be unveiled at the coming IFA event in Berlin.
What this means, you can get 3D experience from existing OpenGL based Android games. This is made possible by creating 2 images (foreground + background) from existing depth information of the game. According to LG, the 3D Game Converter will be released as a software update in October with approximately 50 2D games being supported. Additional 50 games will join the list by year end. We are also hoping that LG releases Android 2.3 Gingerbread update by then.
